Summer always seems to get the big press about all the unbelievable
concerts going down, but though it gets short shrift in the rags,
little upstart Spring is hot on Summer's heels as a key concert season.
Cases in point:
Sean Lennon
I
cannot recommend this tour highly enough. By far one of the best shows
I've seen in the last year, and one of my favorite album releases, too,
Sean Lennon is having a banner year in 2007. He's on the road
throughout the month of April, and I'm personally looking forward to
catching him at Irving Plaza. Need more convincing? Check out my review of his Bowery show in December.

Arcade Fire
There's
a reason they sold out 5 nights in a row in New York, and no, it's not
just because the church was so damn small. This troupe of troubadours
from Montreal are THE band to see this year. Thankfully, they've got 3
nights in NY at humongous venues (if the 500-seater church is your
benchmark, that is). And with 16 dates overall across the country, you
non-Gothamites will have a chance to catch 'Fire, too. I'll see you at
United Palace AND Radio City -- woohoo!!!

Bjork
Yes,
she of the oddball attitude, pixie appearance, and unmistakable vocals
is coming back to the US this year. And for those of you who aren't
going to be catching her headlining slot at Coachella, you have a great
shot at catching her closer to home. She's got 3 dates in NY (United
Palace, Radio City AND the Apollo -- zowie!), plus Chicago, Red Rocks
CO, The Gorge WA (Sasquatch!), Mountain View, Vancouver and Ontario
(Virgin Fest). It's not the vastest of tour routings, so plan your May
very carefully.

LCD Soundsystem
Sometimes
you just gotta shake your groove thang. I find myself needing to do it
quite often, actually. So thank goodness for James Murphy and his
quasi-punk-electro-disco fabulousness that has found its ultimate
expression in LCD Soundsystem. So if you live in NY, San Fran, Seattle,
Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Vancouver or Toronto, balance out your Spring
calendar with a club show or two, shaking your money maker to tunes
fresh from the latest release (hear it in full at the LCD Soundsystem MySpace page).

Teddybears
Yet another of my favorite shows this year,
Teddybears are 3 wacky Swedes that have thrown over their punk roots
for two turntables, bolstered by some meaty strings and drums, with a
tinge of reggae thrown in to make the party raunchy. When I said you
should catch a club show or two, this is the second one I was talking
about. Seriously. Run, don't walk, to your nearest Teddybears show.
You'll thank me for it, I promise you. Need more convincing? Here's some arm-twisting for you.
