Huh-Wha?: Strokes Open for Tom Petty

Um, does anybody else find it extremely odd and surprising that The Strokes are the opening band for Tom Petty's Chicago & Atlanta shows? I, um, I just, well, I don't know what to make of that.

Perhaps there's some hero-worship going on in the Strokes' camp. And when you consider that this is officially Tom Petty & the Heartbeakers' last national tour, maybe they figure it'll be their last chance to occupy the same stage as the legendary rockers.

See 'Em Live:
Strokes (solo):      9/12                 Boston, MA: Bank of America Pavilion
Strokes & Petty:   9/14 & 9/15     Chicago, IL: Lakefront Pavilion
Strokes & Petty:   9/22                  Atlanta, GA: HiFi Buys Amphitheater

Don't fret, Petty fans! Tom reassures us that he and the Heartbreakers will continue to play select shows here and there throughout the rest of their collective career. They've simply decided not to do full-blown national tours going forward. So fear not, you can still get your fix.
