>>Damon Albarn
The Good, The Bad and the Queen have announced a very small round of US
dates, and I can barely contain my glee! Plus, they had the good sense to schedule
them all in cities worth flying to, if you don't happen to live within driving distance.
What? Flying to a show? Yes, I actually am of the opinion that buying a plane
ticket to one of these shows would be well within the realm of the reasonable...
nay, even recommended! Why?
1. Damon Albarn just doesn't show up in the US often enough. Seriously, the last
time was with the Gorillaz, for a string of 5 nights at the Apollo. And nowhere
else. And the last time Blur turned up on these shores? Um, that would be like
1999ish, right? So yeah, this is a rare opportunity to see a Britpop God.
2. Are you old enough to have seen any member of the Clash play live? Ever?
3. This isn't Gorillaz, it's not Blur, it's not Verve, nor the Clash. The Good, The
Bad and the Queen are their own animal, worthy of a serious listen or two... or
thirty. It will be phenomenal live. You can bet on it.
4. Toronto, NYC, DC and New Orleans are all already tourist destinations.
Austin's got a serious music scene, and this show's smack dab in the middle of
SxSW -- THE time of the year to go to Austin. And their CA show is at
Coachella. Again, the best reason to go to the SoCal desert ever created. All
worth the price of a plane fare, wouldn't you agree?
So here's the tour info, straight from their fanclub newsletter:
The Good The Bad and The Queen have confirmed the following first-ever series
of North American dates:
March 11th Toronto Kool Haus
March 12th New York Webster Hall -- ON SALE 2/7
March 14th Washington DC 930 -- ON SALE 2/8
March 16th Austin Stubbs (SXSW)
March 18th New Orleans Republic
More dates are forthcoming, including an April 28 appearance at the annual
Coachella Valley Musc & Arts Festival, and will be announced as they are
confirmed, so keep your ears and eyes on the site and on the myspace page.
